(More customer reviews)A lot of people make homemade prefilters, but many of them just look like crap. The Fluval Edge looks great, fits perfectly, does the job well, and is only about $3 or so, depending who you buy it from.
UPDATE: I am not using this prefilter in my main tank anymore. It is great for a fry tank or a shrimp tank where you don't want them to be sucked into the intake, but it just reduces suction and flow too much. Large debris particles were not being removed from the water. I am now using some mesh from a media bag, secured with some rubber bands, which improves flow and will still keep even my small Tetras from being sucked up.
