Well then, you need to be sure you're also using Diamond carbon-ammonia blend in a filter. From what I've gathered, it's the Aloe Vera in the Stress Coat that has a 5.3 PH level, that's driving down the PH in most tanks, and causing fin rot and snail shell rotting. It also causes that white stuff (lime or calcium deposits from LOW PH) to build up on filters and lights. Keep your tank "true blue" (PH 7.0-7.2) with Diamond Blend Premium Carbon-Ammonia. Don't forget to use Stress Zyme with every water change, like the rest of these chemicals they should be used weekly.
It's a "circle of life" where these three chemicals (carbon-ammonia blend, Stress Coat, and Stress Zyme) are playing off one another, while keeping your tank looking "true blue" (7.0-7.2) and crystal clear. If you hold one chemical out of this "true blue" balanced circle of chemicals, you'll end up with tank problems (PH 6.8 or less). You shouldn't need to add the chemical "PH UP" if you're using Carbon-Ammonia blend in a filter with these two other chemicals (Stress Coat and Stress Zyme). Carbon by itself lasts longer in helping keep the "PH UP".
If you've fed bottom feeders live black worms, then you'll want to keep those worms breeding on the bottom. You don't suck up gravel and sand to remove old food, you install an aquarium circulation pump underwater and aim it at the bottom section you need cleaning. The filters should remove excess food which is kicked up into the circulating flow of water in the tank. I like using the entire backside of aquarium for hangon filters of any design. Move the pump daily to another location to keep the bottom clean and alive with black worms. These circulation pumps come in many strengths, middle of the road is fine. Don't forget to put a timer on it, I do about 3 hours of cleaning out of every 12 hours, to give fish a breather. Basically it will move gravel around to look like a Sunny or Blue Gill hole to breed in, as it kicks up old food into a circulating water flow, which then gets trapped in filters. If you don't clean the bottom it will smell like a sewer hole, and that stinks.
