Lee's Triple-Flow Corner Filter, Large Review

Lee's Triple-Flow Corner Filter, Large
Average Reviews:

This filter does the job as expected. I am not so found of the attachable base on the bottom. It make the filter sit crooked in my gravel. I also would change the air tube. I like using an aeration stone, added oxygen in tank, but the little tabs that hold the tubing in place are fragile. The sloping lid makes it hard to keep the poly filter material in place while placing the filter into the tank. Otherwise, this is the kind of filter I was looking for to place in my 10 gallon tank.

I got this for my turtle and it's a lil big for my tank, but the good thing is, I can turn it on and run couple of hours to clean the tank without leaving it all day long :) The only downside of this product is that the insert to base takes a lil get use to esp. under the water. But overall it's solid product.

It does a very good job of filtering my tank. I have a frog with a half and half tank setup. The suction is fine for the frog, but when I put a fish in there, it was over taken by the strength of the suction and the power of the water being filtered out. Not too bad overall.

Fluval U1 Underwater Filter Review

Fluval U1 Underwater Filter
Average Reviews:

I bought this filter for 1 Red Ear Slider in a 10 gallon tank. It's an easy setup and quite powerful for such a compact filter. I moved around the pebbles to get any uneaten food and dirt to float. As soon as I started this filter, all of the junk went to the side vents and the water quickly cleared up. For a 10 gallon filter I have to say that the outtake nozzle shoots the water out fast. You can control how fast the water comes out but I must say, I believe I have it at the lowest setting possible and it still comes out fast. I guess that it good so that it keeps the water circulating. Admittingly, I haven't had a turtle since I was in Elementary School; I won't say what year ;-) This filter also has a dial that allows air to also enter the tank. With the combination of air and the flow, this gives good circulation. I must say, since I put this filter in, my RES is very active.
Cleaning is very easy. This model has a flip top and all you need to do is either take out the foam and wash it; or replace it. This foam is very inexpensive. Also, this filter varies in price. It's best to shop around. I should of bought this on Amazon as Petco didn't have this model but my local Aquarium shop did; for $10 extra. I've seen prices vary from several online stores from $5 to about $20.
This is a pretty good filter for a 10 gallon tank or as a secondary filter for a larger tank. If you can see the small letters in the picture above, the U1 is the one on the right.

This is simply a foam filter that removes most refuse from the water. It stays operational for a fair amount of time considering the volume and number of critters. While other filters are more effective, here you get what you pay for: a simple, easy to clean filter that gets rid of most of the "yucks".

Cichlid Gold Mini Sinking Food, 12oz Review

Cichlid Gold Mini Sinking Food, 12oz

I am ordering this food because of the huge price hike at my local store. I tried other food for my tiger oscar and wasted my money. He will not take it no matter how hungry. It gets spit right back out.
So obviously it gets eaten. The results? Brilliant orange markings, fast growth, good bulk, and a general glow. Hopefully this is also due to good care but the food definitely did not hurt. ;)
I do wish the pellets were a little larger for his big mouth but I will just have to be patient.

Eheim Aquaball Internal Filter 2210 Review

Eheim Aquaball Internal Filter 2210
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought 2 of these. One for a 20 gallon long goldfish tank to help filter along with a UV submersible filter. The second I have used as a supplemental filter for a 30 gallon turtle tub alongside a few other pumps/filters. Both of them clogged after a few days and weren't moving water anymore. The filter media I was originally using was the foam that comes with it. I took those out and added carbon that was large enough to not escape the baskets. That solved the problem! I would not order this as a primary filter, but for some supplemental cleaning or water agitation, I would recommend this.

Penn-plax Bubbler Bottom Filter Review

Penn-plax Bubbler Bottom Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Basically, i started this out for guppies. they didn't survive and now i have quite a few more. Swordtails being my favorite here. the filter is simple, but is a hassle for the activated filter carbon. the small particles get throught the bottom and then, the air is pushed through, potientially pushing out the small particles into the tank. i thought it was dangerous for the fish so i got a sifter for the smaller particles. it takes me an hour and a half all together to get this done. the airtube is pretty tight on, but it gets slimy. the trapping isn't amazing, but decent so make sure you have a cleaning fish for the leftovers.

TOM Aquarium Mini Internal Filter 45gph adjustable flow Review

TOM Aquarium Mini Internal Filter 45gph adjustable flow
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This filter is great.
Plastic is sturdy construction.
It is dead quiet. The first few days there was a slight rattle with the impeller but that went away and never came back. It is in my bedroom and it is so quiet that I can barely hear the minutest of hums in the dead quiet of the night. Like I have to concentrate to hear it. During the day I literally have to put my ear a few inches from the glass to hear it ticking over.
Adjustment of the water flow is easy and doesn't cause the unit to make more noise like the Hydor Ekip did. The flow control however is also not continuous, but rather in a 3 discrete levels.
I like the fact that it comes with 3 output attachments; Spray bar, top v-spout, and standard center pipe.
I will say that the cleaning of the filter requires a bit of delicate handy-work as the flow control tab (hard to explain but you will understand when you buy it) is delicately wrapped around the sponge. As long as you are careful you won't break anything.
The electrical cord is about 1.6 meters long.
The spraybar dampens the current nicely in a small tank. I have a 5.5g nano and it keeps the water moving but does not 'blow stuff around'. With the spraybar attached the unit is 6 3/4 inches wide and 6 1/4 inches tall.
The suction cups are very strong, in fact, maybe too strong, as I have to really pull them off hard to get them to cooperate.
It has a good quality sponge whose grain is not too fine or too thick. It takes a good couple weeks before I start to notice dirt in the sponge (which you can see because the filter case is clear), and my water stays very clear. When I squeeze out the sponge carefully (in water from the tank so as not to kill the bacteria) I can get it looking brand new again easily. Also, the current around the sponge intake is not too strong, I think baby shrimps would have no trouble steering clear of the being sucked up into the intake. Besides, the sponge grain is too fine to allow them in.
The carbon section of the filter is ridiculously small, maybe 7 cubic centimeters. Instead of bothering with carbon I just leave the original carbon in there as an extra biological filter medium.
This is a great mini filter. I would highly recommend it.t

Tetra Aquatic Reptile Heater, 100 Watt Review

Tetra Aquatic Reptile Heater, 100 Watt
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, let me address some of the concerns mentioned here in other reviews. The heater is preset to warm your tank to 73 degrees. That may or may not seem like a huge difference to you depending on how warm you keep your home, where the tank is located and if the warmth of the basking light is helping to warm things up. This heater is meant to take the chill out of the water, not to "keep it warm". It's not meant for that and that is not what the turtle is looking for.
Secondly, I have had great success with ours...EXCEPT (my OWN fault!)....when changing my turtles water, somehow my son plugged in the heater when the heater was not completely submerged. Huge problem in that it fizzled, sparked and popped - umm not good. It does say it in the directions, but they don't really ever say what will happen if you plug it in early. Of course, common sense should dictate, but last night it did not. I spent hours cleaning out the new tank AGAIN and now I am back to buy another!
The plastic housing is great! Only once has my monster of a red eared slider been able to open it. She does manage to knock it loose once in awhile though! It's all good!!
Overall...I would buy again. I am buying again. I would recommend this for others as well!

Fluval 4 Plus Internal Filter, 260 GPH Review

Fluval 4 Plus Internal Filter, 260 GPH
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am fairly impressed with this simple foam pad filter. I have mine in a 90 gallon tank with 7 turtles. It handled 6 pretty well needing the pads cleaned about every 7 to 10 days; however the 7th seems to much and now the filter "dies" every couple days. Turtles are very messy so the fact that a sub hundred dollar filter keeps up is great.
I love the simple design and the fact there are only about 7 pieces and most of them are large. This makes it easy to take apart, clean, and put back together without losing anything or forgetting anything. My one complaint here is I wish it had a "hatch for cleaning the jet head. The head clogs up with "stuff". You can tap the head on the side of the sink while running water through it to get most of it, but I always feel like it could be cleaner.
The last part I will comment on is the filter media. It is very simply two foam pads. The spaces in the foam generate helpful bacteria and do a good job of grabbing most of the "junk" in the water. Another plus is the supplemental pads that you can by to go between the foam pads. I have used polyester pads my self to clean the water better [minimal improvement as turtle waste is fairly large] and a carbon pad. This is the area where it loses a fifth star. You really do need some rocks and carbon and foam together to clean a big tank well, and while the Fluval 4+ does a great job for the price, you get what you pay for, a HUGE foam filter that can push some water.

Fluval U2 Underwater Filter Review

Fluval U2 Underwater Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this for my 10 gallon aquarium and I was amazed by how well it filtered my water, I was never a big fan of in-the-tank filter but man this one gets the job done! I wish I could give this a 4.5 stars but I can't, only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because its pretty bulky and kind of unattractive to look at and due to the size its kinda hard to conceal behind plants. Its COMPLETELY silent, if you don't need the filter to provide aeration its pretty much impossible to hear it unless you press your ear up against the glass next to the filter. The filter does provide an option where it can provide aeration, unfortunately any type of aeration (from any filter or a air stone) will cause sound due to bubbling and surface agitation.

Tetra 29181 Finding Nemo Aquarium Cube, 1.5 Gallons Review

Tetra 29181 Finding Nemo Aquarium Cube, 1.5 Gallons
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Nemo for my son and the Ariel for my daughter. They both wanted a pet so we figured a fish would be the best for now. We saw these on the disney site (if you catch them at the right time of the month you can get it for half off the retail and cheaper shipping).
Great little design, no leaks, filter is cute and relatively functional, however the air pump is not very stable and is prone to falling over and making a loud vibrating noise. It seems to want to follow the hose, so make sure you position the hose well.
The tank includes almost everything you need, EXCEPT gravel. So, when your kids open it up looking for it, you will need to come up with a good excuse (or, after reading this review, buy it and have it ready). Food, water conditioner, decoration, lights, etc., are all included. Make sure to rinse everything very well. Be careful not to use any soap as the residue may kill anything you put into the tank. A good thorough rinse should do the trick. Then, try to fill the tank and let it run for a couple of days before adding a fish (we put one Beta in each tank and they are both doing very well). The acrylic is very clear, and the cover is VERY good for keeping toys, hands, etc., out of the tank. I did not give it five stars because of the pump and the lack of gravel. Even still, I would have given 4.5 stars if it were available, as the gravel is not such a big deal (don't forget to rinse it VERY, VERY well before adding it into the tank).

Cascade® Internal Submersible Filters for Aquariums - UL Listed Review

CascadeĀ® Internal Submersible Filters for Aquariums - UL Listed
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Cascade 300 inline filter is a good cheap filter for a five or 10 gallon tank that requires a slow to medium current (I use it in 5gal betta tanks) but I would not recommend it in anything bigger as any bio-load over 'light' would overwhelm it.

It has a bio-sponge section and a "Disposable Carbon filter Cartridge" that they want you to buy in packs. I pried open the cartridge it came with to find low grade carbon pellets so I replaced them with Marineland Black Diamond Premium and it works even better now.

This is my favorite brand, and I buy it regularly for my tropical fish. I like that it is an all natural product, that it has a very mild smell, and the fish go crazy when I feed them this food. I didn't realize there was much difference among brands, but my fish look great, their colors are bright and they are all a good weight.
They tend to live a long time, and I've not had a problem with illness or cloudy water for years. I recommend this fish food highly.
